Prime example of why you should keep the left lane, aka the PASSING lane, clear on our Interstates unless you are passing, are in heavy traffic, making room for a merging car, or are taking a left hand exit
I know I'm preaching to the choir, but if you want to share this message with friends and family on facebook (to get more people outta the left lane!), here's the link to share from a facebook page:

Uncontrollable? Why not shift into neutral?

How can you not put the car in neutral and shut it off or coast to a stop?
Next time I'm in a hurry, I'll just put the pedal down and call 911 and tell them my throttle is stuck wide open. Bam, free police escort.

Kia Sorento. At the very end of the clip, it says that Kia issued a statement and basically said there is nothing wrong with the car.

I see. So what do they do to people who don't know how to operate their car? Or if something did break or get jammed. Issue them some kind of equipment citation? Like when you have a burnt out light or noisy exhaust... These "runaway" car stories come up waaaay too often.

I'm kinda impressed that the driver of the "runaway" car kept it in control when blowing past traffic on the left hand shoulder. Many drivers would have lost it and barrel rolled the thing. Which also perplexes me...somebody calm enough to drive like that can't decide to turn off the ignition? Curious indeed.
And I do like that the local TV station felt it imperative to put a Man On The Scene hours later to report on the story. In the dark. On an overpass. I guess they feel like they spent all that money on reporting-type equipment and have to use it...sounds like the po-leece in Stockbridge, Mass using up all that cop equipment on a littering case...

There are lot of people who keep items in the footwell. Shoes, sandals, drinks, food, pets. Add in that there are lots of overweight or elderly people who can't maneuver enough to unlodge something that gets stuck on the accelerator.

Also notice the Nissan Cube driving so painfully slow that a semi is forced to pass it. Terrible car

I gotta give her two-thumbs up on keeping that thing on the road during those trips OFF the road, regardless of whether she could've just turned the key one click to shut it off, or slid the gear selector into part, or whatever... kudos for keeping it shiny side up. I'm impressed.

First - love the purpose of the video - getting people to understand what the left lane is for. But good luck with that - I can't even convince friends/family what the "law" is.
Now regarding the car & driver: Have any of these "runaway" cars ever been proven to have something actually wrong with them (not counting the driver)?
Brakes produce a couple thousand ft/lb torque. Engine a couple of hundred at best (less in higher gears).
Brakes typically cut power to engine when applied (on newer cars).
Shifting to neutral does not require brake press...also an option.
Turning off car (not recommended as first option) is an option. Can do on good straight road (don't lock steering wheel).
I absolutely refuse to believe the car had a problem and could not be stopped.
